Snip Tuck, a Dorchester County non-profit formed in 2008, Saves Lives by Preventing Births, specifically spaying and neutering cats.
Cats can have 3-4 litters of kittens every year. The warmer the winter the more kittens you will see. One pair of cats with their offspring can produce thousands of kittens in a very short period of time. People who feed them seldom realize this until they have 30 cats. This can happen in the span of one year. A kitten born in March can have its own kittens by November.
We discovered that the City of Cambridge was interested in addressing the problem of feral cats. We were extremely pleased to find out that the City wants to control the feral cat population using the most humane techniques. Since Snip Tuck has been using the technique known as Trap Neuter Return (TNR) for nearly 10 years and has sterilzed 8,000 cats we told the City they did not need to “reinvent the wheel”.
Feral, Free Roaming, Community, Stray Cats – some believe there is a difference but for Snip Tuck they are the same. They all need to be fed, provided shelter, sterilized and vaccinated.
Snip Tuck will be working with the City to develop ideas to help citizens and the cats. These may include educational materials, community outreach, a cat colony tracking system and a hot-line. All humane ideas are welcome.
