Dear Readers:

I, as many of you, have had a lot of time to think about what is happening all around us.

As we will not be having a city council meeting tomorrow, I decided to write the attached in hopes that it might be helpful.

Each of us has family and friends about whom we are concerned either because of health or financial security issues. Know that they and I are thinking about you as well.

I hope that you are well and stay well during these difficult times.

All the best.

Cambridge Transitions – Steve Rideout – Mar 13, 2020

Dear Readers:

With Odie Wheeler retiring in December, the city manager is in the process of developing his plan for reorganizing the city staff that he will bring to City Council for approval. In the mean time, citizens come to our meetings and let us know where we need to improve. I am also hearing from you that some things that were being done well may now be falling through the cracks.

In order that the city manager and city leadership know what may not being done that you think needs to be done, you have to let someone know. Simply complaining about something in general terms does not necessarily help us to understand the problem that needs to be fixed so that the information can be directed to the city manager for action by city staff. The best way to do that is to go on the city website and make a report on the public reporting site on the city home page.

That site is  https://clients.comcate.com/newrequest.php. If you do not get a personal response within a few days, follow up and ask what is being done. Do not just accept the automatic response as meaning something is being done.

You can also contact your elected official so that each of  us can be sure of your concern and get that information to the city manager for staff action. Cambridge continues to make progress in so many areas and ways. Making sure that we know from you where we can improve is part of our ongoing concerns and efforts.

Thank you for helping to improve our city.

Steve

Dear Readers:

Next month we will be in the teens for Cambridge Matters as we do our countdown to the end of the current city council and the election in October of the new city council.

We had some interesting issues at this meeting and will have more for both of the March meetings so think about coming to participate in our local democracy.

Thanks for reading.

Dear Readers:

Attached is Cambridge Matters #21 from last night’s meeting.

We received some great information on Eagleman and IronMan and the Pine Street Project, but there was not much to take action one. The one matter of substance brought some disagreement about which I explain in more detail on the attached.

I hope you find this helpful.

Dear Readers:

Attached is my first report from City Council for 2020. For the most part the meeting went smoothly except that it was not being shown on the Internet. We were advised by the City Manager that it was being recorded and that it would be available soon. Hopefully that is the case.

The City continues to make progress in a variety of areas.

As I mention in the report, the presentation regarding Sailwinds was not available on Monday evening but has been promised. As soon as I receive it, I will forward it on to you.

Dear Readers:

Attached please find a 3 page document regarding the performance of our school system this past academic year. Page 3 has the definitions that are listed on pages 2 and 3. Page 1 is broken down into the elementary, middle, and high schools. Page 2 addresses math and English Language Arts proficiency as well as graduation rates.

I am not sure who sets the target rates or what those rates are.

I offer no comment on the results other than disappointment.
